BOBBY'S GATE TO RUSSIA

Sci-fi website FarGate (Russia) got an exclusive interview with the idjit-hating Bobby on our show, Jim Beaver!

We learn lotsa new things about this trucker-hat dude :

FarGate (FG) : Don`t you think that nowadays TV series tend to be deeper and more interesting than most of the big screen movies? What do you think about this tendency?
Jimbo : I agree, there`s a lot more serious, thoughtful drama on television than in the movie theatres these days, at least in terms of a percentage of the things available. There are and will always be intelligent, meaningful films, but they must compete nowadays for theatre space against huge action and adventure films that make much more money, and are less likely to get much attention in theatres. But on television, there are many more opportunities for writers to create important and emotionally rich stories. I think there will always be a battle between art and commerce, and as long as there`s an outlet to serve the thoughtful drama, it will thrive, whether it`s in theatres or on television.

FG : What do you think about modern cinema?
Jimbo : I see a few films every year that I like a great deal, but far fewer than I used to. Much of what is highly successful in modern cinema doesn`t interest me. I have very little interest in superhero or monster or horror or science fiction movies, generically, yet every year even one of those categories will have something wonderful. DISTRICT 9, for example, is a science fiction movie, but it`s also a brilliant drama, one of my favorites of last year ~ aaw yeah, that movie had the saddest sci-fi movie ending EVER ~

FG : Which modern movie stars would you like to play with?
Jimbo : The great thing about working with big movie stars is that you generally get paid pretty well and lots of people see your work. Other than that, I`m much more interested in the actors I work with being strong and effective than famous. I think George Clooney and Brad Pitt, from what I`ve heard, would be wonderful to work with, and I like the films they make. I`ve managed to be in the same film with Kevin Spacey, Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise, and Nicolas Cage without ever working with them in person, so sometimes evenb being in the same movie isn`t enough! ~ WHAT?! brb searching Jim's imdb ~

FG : Bobby is a big expert in a mystical and occult literature. What about yourself, are you interested in such things?
Jimbo : Bobby and I differ on these things. I have very little, if any, interest in the occult and the mystical. I'm interested more in what I can see and hear, and I`ve never seen or heard anything mystical. But then, of course, Bobby`s seen a lot more than I have!

FG : What is Bobby occupied with in his spare time when he`s not giving advices to Winchester brothers.
Jimbo : I`m sure Bobby has his own hunting tasks, and of course, he`s got his wrecking yard to attend to.

FG : How does Bobby earn his living?
Jimbo : He owns a wrecking yard, where he dismantles and sells parts from junk automobiles.

FG : We could not help noticing that many of your characters in different series wear a cap. Is that a part of your personal style or just a part of scenic image?
Jimbo : I`ve always liked hats, but it was never a particular choice of mine to wear one until these roles came along. I wear a baseball cap all the time in real life because I have to keep my hair pretty long for the role of Bobby, and I find it easier to keep my hair out of my eyes with a cap ~ remember that dream walking ep? BOBBY WITH NO HAT IS STRANGE ~

FG : We know that nowadays Americans tend to visit psychological counseling. Is Bobby doing the same to live through his disability since he can`t walk anymore?
Jimbo : While I in real life am a great believer in counseling, I fear that Bobby is more the sort of person who would try to work out his problems himself, without help. I think that`s a weakness on Bobby`s part, because it takes a strong person to reach out for help.

FG : How do you think could Bobby get over his disability? Will he stop thinking about himself as a useless person?
Jimbo : I don`t know how Bobby will cope with his disability. That`s up to the writers. But I think he will eventually reach a resolution with himself and have a positive life.

FG : Did you meet Jensen on the film set of Days of Our Lives for the first time?
Jimbo : I`m pretty sure I had a scene or two with Jensen on Days of Our Lives, but it was probably a large church scene, a wedding or a funeral. I don`t remember actually talking to him on that show, and he doesn`t remember either. We`ve talked about that a few times. I`d love to see a picture of us together then, but I don`t even know if one exists.

FG : Is it true that Jensen is involved in the photography? Did you see any of his works? Is there any chance that we can see them?
Jimbo : don`t know anything about Jensen`s photography. This question is the first I`ve heard of it ~ lol me too jim ~

FG : Jensen said that he preferred to work in TV series rather than in movies because TV series mean steady earnings. And why are you in series?
Jimbo : I don`t have the luxury to pick and choose among projects. I take what work I can get, and feel very fortunate to have this particular job. A series is indeed good, because it makes one`s life a little more predictable. But I like making movies, and if I got to make enough of them, I`d enjoy that just as much, I`m sure.

FG : How do you like to spend your vacations? Do you like to travel, or maybe just lie down on the beach near the sea?
Jimbo : I love to travel, but most of my travel is connected to work. When I have time off, I usually like to stay home, see movies, read, visit friends. I love going to new places where I have not been before, though.
FG : What of the most interesting sight-seeing places across the world would you like to visit?
Jimbo : I`ve always wanted to visit the island kingdom of Tonga in the South Pacific. I hope to visit there this spring for the first time. I would also like to visit Antarctica sometime.

FG : What about your spare time? How would you prefer to spend it? With a book on a couch or watching a play in a theater or a movie in a cinema?
Jimbo : I love movies and books. I can be very happy sitting at home for days reading and watching movies. But I like to go to the theatre as often as possible, and I enjoy the occasional baseball game.

FG : We know that Misha is in to carpentry. Do you like to make something with your own hands as well?
Jimbo : I used to draw, specializing in charcoal portraits. But I lost interest years ago and haven`t done anything like that in a long time. I still keep my art supplies nearby, but rarely use them. I`m not very good at making things, I`m afraid.

FG : Do you have any hobbies?
Jimbo : I love reading and writing about film history. I also enjoy horseback riding, but I don`t do it very often.

FG : What sort of beer do you prefer?
Jimbo : I don`t drink beer. I don`t like it.

FG : Do you like cooking? If so which dishes are you best in cooking with?
Jimbo : I`m not a very good or experienced cook. I sometimes cook a little chicken, but mostly I eat frozen dinners or at restaurants.

FG : You are familiar with the word cinema history. What are your top ten movies from this prospective?
Jimbo : My top ten movies sometimes shift, depending on my mood. But several are almost always on the list:
The Searchers (1956)
Ride the High Country (1962)
Farewell My Lovely (1975)
The Tall T (1957)
Yojimbo (1962)
Seven Samurai (1954)
Under Fire (1983)
The Grapes of Wrath (1940)
Casablanca (1942)
Out of the Past (1947)

FG : You wrote 4 scripts for Alfred Hitchcock Presents. How was it to be on the other side of TV camera?
Jimbo : It was very rewarding seeing my scripts come to life on screen, and the show was a lot of fun. It`s much harder work, writing, than acting, so I don`t exactly miss it. But I enjoyed the process a great deal and I learned a lot.

FG : Do you like horror movies? What do you think about Jensen`s and Jared`s works in My Bloody Valentine and Friday the 13th? Did you have other cinematographic activities beside your work as an actor?
Jimbo : I`m not a fan of horror movies, particularly. There are exceptions, of course. I think The Exorcist and Alien were impressive and exceptionally effective horror movies. But I don`t care much for slasher movies. I confess I haven`t seen either of Jensen`s or Jared`s horror movies. Aside from acting, I don`t do much in film terms. I`ve written a few scripts and I directed my first film this past year, a short film based on one of my theatre plays. Most of the time, I`m content to act.

FG : There were these handcrafted embroideries that we pass on to Jensen and Jared. Do you happen to know whether they reached their recipients or not?
Jimbo : I haven`t seen these before. They`re beautiful. I know nothing about whether they reached the boys or not. The production office handles those things, usually.

FG : You know several Russian words. How did you learn them?
Jimbo : I really only know the words for "thank you" and "goodbye," and maybe one or two others. I love languages and would love to speak Russian, but I`ve never actually studied it, and without a dictionary, I`m helpless!

FG : Is there any chance you visit Russia? Maybe an unofficial visit?
Jimbo : I would LOVE to visit Russia. I have no plans to go, but I would never turn down an opportunity to see your amazing country. It would be thrilling.

FG : Do you plan on writing another book? If so what kind of book will it be?
Jimbo : I have been researching another book for many years, long before my recent book. It`s a biography of the 1950s television actor George Reeves, who was the first actor to play Superman on television. I also have a novel in the works. But I`m very slow, and do not know when I will finish either of these projects.

FG : What do you think about translation of books, movies etc into other languages? Is it better when a translation is as close as possible to the original or should it be adapted to a different culture and different experience of people who speak another language?
Jimbo : I think translation should best capture the spirit of the original, even if certain precise literal words or phrases must be altered. If a reader or viewer in another language cannot understand what the author`s intent was, it does not matter whether the translation was a good one or not.

FG : Which of two approaches mentioned above will you prefer have your book translated into another language?
Jimbo : I think my answer to #27 would apply to this question, too. Some cultural and idiomatic things do not translate well literally, and must be adapted so that they make sense in the new culture.

looks like jimbo's a history buff pretty much like bobbeh,

A BIT OF SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL

The devil has been portrayed many was in our media, but none have done it with a sense of twisted innocence and honesty quite like Mark Pellegrino has, who brings alive the devil ~ Luci! ~ on our favorite show, Supernatural!

He did an interview with artistdirect, and here's what the seemingly chivalrous devil talked about :

ArtistDirect (AD) : Playing the devil is pretty awesome…
Nic-I mean, Mark : Yeah, the devil is awesome [Laughs]. It's a really fun part. You can do just about anything you want, and it's all good because you're Satan [Laughs].

AD : How do you get yourself into the mindset of playing the ultimate villain? Moreover, how do you put a different spin on Satan?
Mark : One, it's about not looking at it as evil. As an actor, you always have to justify your character's actions to yourself, and I think the devil has a really interesting beef. If you think about it, he was a faithful son who was rejected and betrayed by his father and his brother. He's pretty mad and he wants to get even. He was thrown over for beings that he thought were so much less than him and so unworthy of what his father wanted, so he felt sacrificed. I think any human being can relate to the feeling of being betrayed and wanting revenge for that as well as justice. That, is what I think gives the part strength and moral force instead of thinking, "I'm just evil." The devil wants to destroy humanity for a damn good reason [Laughs].

AD : There's definitely a sense of fun to that, but you still preserve the character's inherent darkness.
Mark : Sure, revenge is a pretty doggone dark place and feeling murderous rage towards people is really dark. The interesting thing about the way they write Satan in the series is he's kind of down-to-earth, honest, simple and uncomplicated in a way ~ totally! he's like your bestfriend who knows all those secrets about you ~ He comes at everybody not just from their weaknesses but from a truthful and just point of view. When he's tempting people, everything he says to them makes sense. I think that's a pretty cool angle.

AD : As Verbal Kint says in The Usual Suspects, "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist…"
Mark : Yeah, that's for sure! The trick to playing evil is to not play evil. The most evil people that you can think of in history think that they were fighting for a moral good. Hitler thought that he was fighting for a moral good. I was just reading a book about the Salem Witch Trials. I don't think a single judge on those panels that killed 19 people and imprisoned 150 ever thought he wasn't doing the Lord's work.

AD : Of course not…As an actor you can go into an interesting psychological headspace as the devil. The character can be so nefarious, but he's also the ultimate tempter. We all have that side.
Mark : Definitely! I think Satan comes at you from the side you can't escape—that material side. You're in the world and you're a human being, so you're going to have certain characteristics that the devil can work with—ambition, desire, lust and all of these worldly powerful emotions and feelings that drive you. They're not necessarily negative, but they can be if taken to the wrong extreme.

AD : Did you spend a lot of time researching other portrayals of Satan? How did you create your devil?
Mark : No, I like to just figure out what I'm doing and do that. I was lucky in the sense that being a student of history and philosophy, I had read the Bible several times and the Book of Enuch which is about the fall of angels ~ a book about fallen angels? intriguing~ I had a little bit more of a head start on the mythology than some other people. That was a plus working for me. The show's writing lends itself to a more humanistic approach instead of something really ethereal and untouchable.

AD : What's up with LOST?
Mark : It's pretty exciting! I'm getting the impression that my TV career is like my internal dynamic. I'm playing Jesus in one show and the Devil in the other. I'm assuming that's kind of what it is. Jacob seems like a Christ-like figure or an angel of sorts on the other side of Satan. The LOST creators always throw twists and turns. I've done a few episodes of LOST but who knows where it's going to go. Just as they get you thinking that you're going to be one way, it ends up turning into something entirely different. It's a great show. It's wild, and it's a blessing. However, Satan's character feels a little more flamboyant and even a little more reachable or accessible in a way than Jacob does. I don't know what that says about me [Laughs]. Jacob's got that calm, unruffled, seeing-beyond-the-horizon guise. It's very different from me. I feel like I'm closer to Lucifer in a lot of weird ways [Laughs].

AD : Do you ever listen to music to get into character?
Mark : I've never really tailored a list of music to a particular character. I do use music sometimes just to open myself emotionally. There's all kinds of stuff that does that. Music can definitely help me concentrate and get away from the chaos of the set. It gets you more internal and open.

I seriously don't think there's a better version of the Devil than his. Mark's Luci is awesome! :D

CAS vs LUCI. both bbs are fudging fiercee

wonder what kind of music he listens to to play a devil like Luci,

EXAMINE SPN EFFECTS VIA SCHICK

It's not a surprise that the effects needed to be done are considered to be a pretty big part of the Supernatural show. From things as simple as those black clouds we are so familiar with, to more complex things such as effects for the monsters or creatures who appear on our screen. Those destroyed buildings and cut off bridges? Yeah, some of those aren't actually made sets but full-on digitalized by computer! Amazing, right?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
the rad eyes are courtesy Special Effs
but the hotness is all Jensen~

Below is an examiner interview with Dan Schick, one of the many artists who work on the special effects of Beloved Show. He talks about what it takes to get the finished final effect products and what it takes to get into the SE industry!

EXAMINER (EX) : Have you been with Supernatural from the beginning? If so, have all seasons been equally daunting in the special effects arena, or does one season stand out more than the others? If so, why?
Dan : Yes, I have been part of the visual effects crew since season one. I don't think that any one season has been more daunting than another, but I think it's safe to say that the visual effects have been steadily getting bigger and better as the seasons progress ~lol yeah I saw the phantom traveler epi after I watched s3 and laughed at the black smoke, it looked so baad ~

EX : IMDB credits you with the title "digital compositor" is that accurate? If so, what is a digital compositor? What portions of the effects are you responsible for in creation and the finished product that airs?
Dan : As a digital compositor I am basically responsible for the creation and combination of elements to form the desired effect and look of the shot. This, of course, ranges drastically depending on what kind of shot we are working on. It can be as simple as removing wires from stunt people, and it can get as complex as digitally creating camera moves, set extensions, and sometimes whole shots completely.
Visual effects is a huge collaboration and luckily here at Supernatural we have a very talented group of artists.
We have 2 departments. The 3D department, and the Compositing department.
The 3D department is responsible for the creation of elements including anything from demon smoke, fire, dust elements, burning effects or atmospherics. They also do a lot of elements for matte paintings and set extensions like broken bridge elements or sometimes whole buildings that need to be added into the background of a shot. The 3D team typically creates CG knives for shots when the actors get stabbed, they do a lot of body replacement elements and they will create chunks, scars, blood, and gore elements to replace the actor.
The Compositing department is responsible for taking these 3D elements, along with elements that have been shot in live action (such as background plates, green screen plates, and elements like fire and water), and combining them all together to create the final shot. Typically one or two artists will collaborate on a shot, but for the more complex shots it's not uncommon to have many artist all working together to help create the final shot.

EX : What is your background? Have you worked on a lot of TV and/or movie projects? Please, feel free to list other projects you have worked on.
Dan : I started out in 3D animation. I was working for a few animation studios that specialized in straight to DVD animated movies, but it didn't take long for me to become interested in effects and live action work. Some of the past animation projects I have worked on have been Hot Wheels AcceleRacers, and Viva Pinata for 4Kids TV. Previously to Supernatural, I was involved with a TV show called Killer Instinct.

EX : Readers and fans will be interested in what is required to get into your field of career. Schooling? Degrees? Interning? Advice? Etc...
Dan : There are a number of different paths you can take to get into visual effects. The best would be one of the many schools that specialize in digital art. Most of them will provide you with the basic training you will need to be a visual effects artist. From there all you need is an artistic eye, and passion for the project. School is a great way to get to know a few people in the industry. Once you have your foot in the door, interning is a great way to learn. Most of the knowledge you'll need to make it in the visual effects industry you'll learn on your first job.

EX : How long does a special effect take to complete? For example, one of your reels shows a scene from "Red Sky at Morning" with the water effect as the two sailor brothers collide ~ THIS VIDEO IS BELOW!! REALLY AMAZING ~ How long did that take from concept to final product? Also, the black demon smoke effect used many times in the series when a demon leaves a human host, it looks simple but I suspect it is very complex when broken down. How long does that effect take to create?
Dan : The duration of a visual effects shot can range drastically depending on what it is we are trying to achieve. For example, most wire and rig removal shots and most of the black eye shots can be completed in anywhere from a few hours to half a day. However, some of the more complex shots can take anywhere from a few days to a week or sometimes even longer ~ wow that long? that must be hard on a show that airs weekly ~
Every shot is different. The difficulty of the shot can depend on many things such as camera movement, length of the shot, how many elements are being added, as well as their placement in the shot. The shot you are referencing with the two brothers colliding, I believe took 3 or 4 days ~ this is actually one of the coolest effect shots on Beloved Show in my opinion ~ The demon smoke shots don't usually take that long, but it depends on what the smoke is supposed to be doing. If the smoke is required to only exit a character and then leave frame it doesn't usually take that long. However, if the demon smoke is required to do something else like exit through a vent, or bust down a door, or if the camera has a very dynamic move then those shots might take a little longer. Unfortunately, because of the nature of a show that airs every week, we sometimes don't have the time we would like to work on our shots.

EX : Have there been any effects that were scrapped when the concept didn't quite convey properly on the screen during production? If so, could you name one or two and explain what fell short.
Dan : Scrapping ideas is all part of the production process. If everyone's ideas made it to the finished show, the episode definitely wouldn't fit into it's one hour time slot. Usually by the time the visual effects department starts working on an episode the ideas and shots are all planned out. Unfortunately every once in a while shots get cut for various reasons. It could be that the shot is too complex and would require too much time, or it could be that the director of the episode had something completely different in mind. Whatever the reason, it is all part of the process.

EX : What is the most complex effect created thus far for Supernatural, in your opinion?
Dan : Season(s) and Episode(s).The most complex visual effects shot, in my opinion, would have to be in the second season, an episode called "Nightshifter". There was one exterior shot of the bank in this episode that I think took more than 7 weeks to complete with 6 or 7 artists working on it. Basically it is an establishing shot of the building and everything had to be digitally created including the buildings, the cars, the people, the flashing lights and even the helicopter. Essentially the whole shot had to be created digitally ~ WHATT ~

Here's one of the videos Schick was kind enough to share with the interviewer that illustrates shortly what it generally takes to get a shot effect done. Really cool.

THE -NOT SO REAL- GHOSTBUSTERS

We loved it when the brothers had their first encounter with two geeky guys who ran the hellhoundslair website and kept pesting Sam and Dean's work. Then we saw them again, reasembled into a bunch of amateur "ghosthunters" that went by the name of GHOSTFACERS, who were very much eager to find some ghosts, film it, and get rich quick.

The 2 frontmen of the group, Ed ~ played by CSI:NewYork regular, A.J. Buckley ~ and Harry ~ played by the less-known but as-entertaining, Travis Wester ~ might be headlining their own actual series. . . . .on the interwebz!

Supernatural creator, Eric Kripke, gave the duo the go to write and star in 10 episodes for a spin-off series that's due to start shooting this March in LA.

Buckley on getting the role of Ed :

"Originally they didn't want me. I am a huge dork, let's not kid anybody. But casting was like, no he's too good looking. I never get that, are you kidding me? Usually I'm not good looking enough and now I'm too good looking?"

LOL oh Buckley, you are the hot-kind of geek that this show is basically ran on :) ~ like SAMMY, d'urr ~

The bad news is, he hasn't heard anything of a GHOSTFACERS episode for this season, so it's possible that we'll only be able to see the hilariously weird "hunters" bunch again via our computer screens.

But then again with Beloved Show you never know. . .

GAMBLE ON "THE FUTURE"

TVGuideMagazine recently got an interview with Supernatural executive producer, Sera Gamble, who shares a lot about upcoming episodes.
It's pretty much a lot of what we've already discovered in past spoilers, but she gives us more insight into the 13th episode "Back to the Future II", which she says is gonna be a heartwrencher!
Catch the interview below!
PS : Sorry spoilhaters, you're gonna have to sit this out.

TVGuide : On February 4, you’re doing a “Back to the Future” episode when Sam and Dean time travel to 1978. What are they attempting to do?
Gamble : Sam and Dean go back to try to save their mom and dad—from a threat that also travels back in time from 2020—Terminator style. What are the consequences if they don’t succeed—or they do?If the baddie succeeds, Mary and John [Amy Gumenick and Matthew Cohen, above] will be murdered—and Sam and Dean will never be born. So, you could say the stakes are pretty high for the guys.

TVGuide : Is it a heartbreaker?
Gamble : Definitely. Sam seeing his parents is heart-wrenching—particularly his mom, because she died when he was just a baby. When he first meets her, he’s so overwhelmed he can’t even speak. But I think the most heartbreaking story is Mary’s. She’s done everything she can to leave hunting behind and have a normal life with John. But as the episode unfolds, we see her realize she can never escape.

TVGuide : For Valentine’s Day you have “My Bloody Valentine,” airing February 11, with a Cupid. This being Supernatural, what kind of havoc does he or she create?
Gamble : Well, for starters, he shows up stark naked and gunning for hugs! Sam and Dean are investigating a series of gory murder/suicides—all people who were desperately in love. They suspect the culprit may be the supernatural being who made the matches to begin with—a Cupid gone rogue. So they capture and interrogate him. All I can say is, he is a very loving dude. It's hilarious.

TVGuide : What else can we look forward to before your Olympic break?
Gamble : Anna [Julie McNiven], the fallen angel, will make a reappearance. You’ll find out what happened after Castiel [Misha Collins] turned her in last season.

TVGuide : How is the Apocalypse storyline advanced? Do any more harbingers of doom appear?
Gamble : The Horsemen are active in upcoming episodes—you'll meet Famine, and find out some of what Death has been doing since Lucifer [Mark Pellegrino] raised him. Other upcoming episodes will also touch on events and creatures from the Book of Revelation. One involves the dead rising—in the form of zombies who seem so benign and reasonable that Dean and Sam are torn: They’re technically monsters, but are they a problem that needs to be solved?

TVGuide : Anything else you can tease?
Gamble : The search for God will soon yield a solid lead. The Archangel Michael will be introduced. We will answer the question, “What does Castiel act like when he's drunk off his ass?” And the brothers will go to Heaven. Yes, actual Heaven.

Before this interview, I didn't even stop and think about how huge a deal this is for the boys, especially Sammy who can finally meet his mother. With Jared's sad puppydog eyes, this one is definitely going to have its heartache moments ;(

And I've been wondering about Death! Did you spoillovers notice that in all the spoilers that have come out, there hasn't been a trace of Death? And he/she ~ SO HOPING IT'S A SHE! ~ rising was the last we saw of a Beloved Show episode. Death is certainly the one to look out for, seems like the lead Horseman.

More creatures from the Book of Revelation!

Yeah, I know we're in the middle of an Apocalypse, but I miss the Monster of the Week format. It doesn't hurt to take a break from all the angsty vibe caused by the end of the world.
But what dissapoints me is : OLYMPIC. BREAK.

ANOTHER HELLATUS?!

sammy is bewildered by this nonsense

But on a brighter noteee. . . .

Two more words : CASTIEL. DRUNK.

IT'S ALMOST TIME SPNFREAKS!!

GET YO HUNTING GEAR ON!! ;D

KRIPKE AND THE WHO'S

New interview by The Who's News Blog with our Supernatural creatively deceptive storymaker, Eric Kripke!

He talks about the bros, the angels and demons, the end of the world, and what's to come in a possible season 6 :

Who'sNewsBlog (WNB) : Jared and Jensen have strengthened their friendship on and off screen since the show began. Is that ideal in a season like this, when the bros are in a weird place emotionally and we know a little more about their connection with Lucifer and the angels?
KripKing : We’re really lucky to have the two of them. As actors, they have such a comfort and respect and almost a shorthand with each other at this point, so they can just jump right in and really try some things that are a little edgy or different in terms of conflict and anger. They feel comfortable going to that place because they work together so well, and they know the other person can carry a heavy load ~ in plain english : NO, BECAUSE J AND J ARE AMAZING ;) ~

WNB : There is a lot of meta humor involved, such as when the Winchesters go to a Supernatural fan convention or the knowing look Sam gives when House of Wax is mentioned. How do you balance that with the serious story at hand, and has it gotten easier over the years?
KripKing : I would say that we’re probably pulling back on it from now on. My own personal feeling is we’re riding the hairy edge of just starting to go to that well too often and push it too far. Most of the time, we do it reasonably well. It’s a way to poke a little fun at ourselves and wink to the audience that we, as the writers of the show, don’t take ourselves too, too seriously. There’s nothing worse than self-important horror. At the end of the day, you’re in the business of scaring people and saying “Boo!” and ripping their hearts out and spraying blood on the screen, so to say that somehow I’m telling some epic religious story is a little pompous and disingenuous. We like to puncture that balloon, poke fun at the show and have a really healthy sense of humor about the characters and about ourselves.

WNB : Is the fallen angel Anna Milton (Julie McNiven) coming back in the second half of the season?
KripKing : She’s coming back in a way that I think will be pretty surprising to the fans. She’s very different than the angel we met when we last saw her. She’s in an episode in which Sam, Dean, Castiel [Misha Collins] and Anna all travel back in time to interact with John and Mary, Sam and Dean’s parents, when they were young. ~ "Back to the Future" ladidadi daaa ~ We did that once successfully in season four, and we’re going back because there’s more of their story to tell. When they find them this time, they’re newlyweds ~ thats means this pic is bb Dean?? ~ and living in an apartment, and John’s trying to wrestle with keeping his job. It’s just interesting seeing little snapshots of what their family was like before the boys were born.

WNB : What other surprises do fans have in store?
*WATCH OUT SPOILS IN THIS ANSWER!*
KripKing : We really pride ourselves on still being a series where people can just join the party. There are certainly the mythology episodes, but Sam and Dean go to an insane asylum [in next week’s episode] ~ SAM, INTERRUPTED! ~ , and there’s an episode with some body-switching going on ~ SWAP MEAT EPISODE BBS! ~ in the second episode back. We’re doing a Valentine’s Day episode, and it’s probably the only Valentine’s Day episode of any show this year that begins with two people having sex, who then proceed to eat each other in a very violent and gory way. [Laughs] ~ eew, Kripkee ~ We’re doing zombies ~ DEAD MEN DON'T WEAR PLAID EPI! ~ , and we’re actually sending the boys to heaven, which is a world on our show we’ve never seen before.

WNB : If there’s a sixth season, how do you top the apocalypse?
KripKing : Well, the trick is to not go big but go intimate – at least those are the initial conversations we’ve had [if the show is picked up for a sixth season]. We always set up this five-year storyline, because in my heart of hearts, I just never imagine we’d actually go five years, much less beyond. We are going to climax the storyline and really wrap up the story of Satan and Michael and the apocalypse. The big question is, how do you follow that? We look at this as a unique challenge but also an opportunity to really launch a new storyline next year. We’re almost looking at it as the sequel to a movie. Rather than as a lot of genre shows do as they get on in years, becoming so convoluted and almost collapsing under their own mythology and getting to the point where you just can’t follow any of it anymore, we’re really looking forward to the opportunity of just sweeping it all clean and starting over with something else. We talk about returning to a stripped-down version of the show that’s almost similar to season one, in which the mythology was just as simple as finding their father and finding something that’s really personal and meaningful to Sam and Dean. One of the things that’s hard about the end of the world is sometimes it’s hard to have your characters emotionally connect with it, because it’s so big. But if their emotional storyline for, say, season six is to save a loved one, then that’s something you can really understand and get behind and actually have some really emotional storytelling that takes you through a lot of the scary episodes.

WNB : So you think about what you’ll do in the next season — how about who you’ll do it with? We don’t know yet if Sam and Dean will survive the end of the world. Are they in your plans?
KripKing : Oh, absolutely. The one thing I can say is there's no Supernatural without Sam and Dean. If they’re not driving the bus, then I’m not sure there’s a bus to drive. Maybe they’ll survive this year and maybe they won’t, but we’re at the point where, hilariously, death on our show for our main characters has now basically become an inconvenience. [Laughs] ~ LOL UNDERSTATEMENT ~ Even if they don’t survive, they’ll certainly be back for a season six. I just don’t know how to tell this story without Sam and Dean.

Okay, for people who've gobbled up every single bit of SPN spoilery they could get their hands on ~ like mehh ~ the surprises are no longer surprises, Kripke dear. lol. But I believe the writers still have a couple of tricks up their SPN-washed sleeves.

In my opinion, season 6 is seemingly a done deal by now. Why? Because :

ONE - Although some fans claim they wouldn't be able to handle another season, I think those people are lying. And the majority of SPN freaks say otherwise too.

TWO - The whole cast and crew of Beloved Show obviously are still itching to continue work on this amazing thing they have. Kripke and the gang still have evil plots they want to get out of their brains, and the Js say they're totes game for a 6th.

THREE - 2009 was probably the shiniest year SPN had, public adoration-wise. With all those praise from critics, noms and awards here and there. Would be a total waste to throw away the show when it's getting all this positive attention.

FOUR - Supernatural is in it's 5th year. Ratings are UP, fanbase is BIGGER. In other words, being a TV hit vet Beloved Show still gots its magic. Not fading anytime soon.

FIVE - The LIVING game promises the winner a spot on the show. If that were to happen, it would be likely that the winner would get a spot in the 6th season, not this one.

SIX- Kripke had lunch with the CW headmaster. lol. CW ain't gonna let go of it's golden bb.

I love that they're doing a 6th<3

And if so, it's nice to hear that they're not gonna be dragging out the whole Apocalypse deal. I would totally tune in to watch Dean and Sammy take on some fresh storyline shiz!

BUDDY WITH CHUCK, RON, LUCIFER, AND GRANDPAPA WINCHESTER

Last month Rogue Events held a quite intimate event for less than 100 Supernatural freaks to gather and have a chat with Mitch Pileggi ~ grandpapa winchester ~ , Mark Pellegrino ~ The Devil ~ , Chris Gauthier ~ chubby Ron from shapeshifter bank robbery ~ , and Rob Benedict ~ Chuck! ~ .

BuddyTv got lucky enough to have an interview with all 4 fine men and talk about their characters on Beloved Show.

BuddyTV and Mitch Pileggi Q&A

2003's Tarzan, when you first met and worked with Supernatural's Creator Eric Kripke - What were your first impressions of him, how did you get on with him and how do you think he has now matured as a writer and director since those early days?
Pileggi : Tarzan, euuurrggghh! 8 episodes of awful! ... Thanks for bringing it up! [smiling] ... Lots of running around on streets, etc. I was pleased when that ended! Eric Kripke was great to work with from the very beginning, very professional and already had looks of being a success. I also worked with Supernatural's David Nutter on that show too... pleasure to work with them both!
Mitch also mentioned his long respectful friendship, and working relationship, with the late Mr. Kim Manners, knowing him all the way back to his days on X Files. He still misses Mannners a lot and loved working under his direction

What was your understanding of the general character of Grandpa Samuel Winchester and was it your idea to make him appear so grumpy and over protective of young Mary?
Pileggi : His character traits were more written into the scripts then it was given my choice to play him that way. However, if I were given the choice, I most probably too would have played him that way.
And Grandpa Winchester fans, Pileggi had so much fun playing him, he would love to return and do more Supernatural backlog story if ever required.

Both Supernatural's Amy Gumenick and Matthew have been quoted on numerous occasions, saying that working alongside you was both a real pleasure and an amazing experience. How did you find the experience of working with those two relative newcomer actors?
Pileggi : I still meet up with Matt at our local Gym, we work out together.
Pileggi went on to say that he had great working relationships with them right from the start. He really enjoyed the scenes with Amy but the kissing scenes terrified him and he felt sorry for her. [Laughing]

BuddyTV and Rob Benedict Q&A

Imagine you're a character in the Supernatural books, maybe a fan going to a Convention? Which character would you be, Dean/Sam or other?
Benedict : [Laughing and flexing his muscles] Honestly, I would much prefer to be my own character Chuck then either Dean or Sam. Only I would like Chuck to be all butch or beefed up.
Benedict also mentions he would like to look the way the boys look on the book covers. He also recently visited his first convention, Supernatural Convention in Chicago, and was pretty nervous. All that went away with the warm welcome fans gave him ~ AWWW ROBB :) ~.

Buddy TV and Mark Pellegrino Q&A

What's your general feeling about how Lucifer is going in Supernatural at the moment? And what color, if any, do you think Lucifer's eyes are, seeing that he is an Archangel turned Demon?

Pellegrino : Very interesting question, never thought about the eye color thing before now! [After discussing it with the others] Interesting one, probably piercing deep blue if any ~ LOL what? i'd say something really light like light orange or something ~
Unfortunately, playing Lucifer is on a "need to know" basis so doesn't have any details on future episodes. However, it is this uncertainty that has been a big adjustment for Pellegrino, career wise. Allowing fans to feel lots of different emotions, not just dislike or hatred, is what he wants from the role.

BuddyTV and Chris Gauthier Q&A

Relating to your character Ronald Resnick, on Supernatural, how did it feel holding up a bank?
Gauthier : [After explaining to Pileggi, Pellegrino, and Benedict how his character ended up robbing the bank] I had great fun. Loved saying the words ''This is not a bank Robbery.'' I loved holding the machine gun and I was really excited about the fact that the episode was done in an actual bank in Vancouver, Canada. I loved going into the banks vault and it remains one of the most enjoyable and fun roles I have done to date ! ~ aww YAY! ~
