Speaking about this achievement, it's so exciting and amazing that our Beloved Show has gotten this far! Like Jensen said in the video, there aren't really that many TV shows that have been able to do so, which makes SPN a force to be reckoned with. Even though I'm not sure about going 200 episodes ~ lol Jim B's so sweet ~ I hope with this there will be more great episodes to come from this show!

The devil has been portrayed many was in our media, but none have done it with a sense of twisted innocence and honesty quite like Mark Pellegrino has, who brings alive the devil ~ Luci! ~ on our favorite show, Supernatural!
He did an interview with artistdirect, and here's what the seemingly chivalrous devil talked about :
ArtistDirect (AD) : Playing the devil is pretty awesome…
Nic-I mean, Mark : Yeah, the devil is awesome [Laughs]. It's a really fun part. You can do just about anything you want, and it's all good because you're Satan [Laughs].
AD : How do you get yourself into the mindset of playing the ultimate villain? Moreover, how do you put a different spin on Satan?
Mark : One, it's about not looking at it as evil. As an actor, you always have to justify your character's actions to yourself, and I think the devil has a really interesting beef. If you think about it, he was a faithful son who was rejected and betrayed by his father and his brother. He's pretty mad and he wants to get even. He was thrown over for beings that he thought were so much less than him and so unworthy of what his father wanted, so he felt sacrificed. I think any human being can relate to the feeling of being betrayed and wanting revenge for that as well as justice. That, is what I think gives the part strength and moral force instead of thinking, "I'm just evil." The devil wants to destroy humanity for a damn good reason [Laughs].
AD : There's definitely a sense of fun to that, but you still preserve the character's inherent darkness.
Mark : Sure, revenge is a pretty doggone dark place and feeling murderous rage towards people is really dark. The interesting thing about the way they write Satan in the series is he's kind of down-to-earth, honest, simple and uncomplicated in a way ~ totally! he's like your bestfriend who knows all those secrets about you ~ He comes at everybody not just from their weaknesses but from a truthful and just point of view. When he's tempting people, everything he says to them makes sense. I think that's a pretty cool angle.
AD : As Verbal Kint says in The Usual Suspects, "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist…"
Mark : Yeah, that's for sure! The trick to playing evil is to not play evil. The most evil people that you can think of in history think that they were fighting for a moral good. Hitler thought that he was fighting for a moral good. I was just reading a book about the Salem Witch Trials. I don't think a single judge on those panels that killed 19 people and imprisoned 150 ever thought he wasn't doing the Lord's work.
AD : Of course not…As an actor you can go into an interesting psychological headspace as the devil. The character can be so nefarious, but he's also the ultimate tempter. We all have that side.
Mark : Definitely! I think Satan comes at you from the side you can't escape—that material side. You're in the world and you're a human being, so you're going to have certain characteristics that the devil can work with—ambition, desire, lust and all of these worldly powerful emotions and feelings that drive you. They're not necessarily negative, but they can be if taken to the wrong extreme.
AD : Did you spend a lot of time researching other portrayals of Satan? How did you create your devil?
Mark : No, I like to just figure out what I'm doing and do that. I was lucky in the sense that being a student of history and philosophy, I had read the Bible several times and the Book of Enuch which is about the fall of angels ~ a book about fallen angels? intriguing~ I had a little bit more of a head start on the mythology than some other people. That was a plus working for me. The show's writing lends itself to a more humanistic approach instead of something really ethereal and untouchable.
AD : What's up with LOST?
Mark : It's pretty exciting! I'm getting the impression that my TV career is like my internal dynamic. I'm playing Jesus in one show and the Devil in the other. I'm assuming that's kind of what it is. Jacob seems like a Christ-like figure or an angel of sorts on the other side of Satan. The LOST creators always throw twists and turns. I've done a few episodes of LOST but who knows where it's going to go. Just as they get you thinking that you're going to be one way, it ends up turning into something entirely different. It's a great show. It's wild, and it's a blessing. However, Satan's character feels a little more flamboyant and even a little more reachable or accessible in a way than Jacob does. I don't know what that says about me [Laughs]. Jacob's got that calm, unruffled, seeing-beyond-the-horizon guise. It's very different from me. I feel like I'm closer to Lucifer in a lot of weird ways [Laughs].
AD : Do you ever listen to music to get into character?
Mark : I've never really tailored a list of music to a particular character. I do use music sometimes just to open myself emotionally. There's all kinds of stuff that does that. Music can definitely help me concentrate and get away from the chaos of the set. It gets you more internal and open.
Our favorite boys are sure getting a whole lot of attention in the UK with Beloved Show's premiere on LIVING getting closer. With the awesome games and TV promosand stuff, the UK is turning out to be the 2nd ~ and dare I say probably BETTER fitted ~ home to Supernatural.
SKYmagazine has named Jensen and Jared as the #1 choice for the magazine's 10 People to Watch. They love the Js so much that they couldn't even pick between the two and decided to name both!

It's not a surprise that the effects needed to be done are considered to be a pretty big part of the Supernatural show. From things as simple as those black clouds we are so familiar with, to more complex things such as effects for the monsters or creatures who appear on our screen. Those destroyed buildings and cut off bridges? Yeah, some of those aren't actually made sets but full-on digitalized by computer! Amazing, right?

Below is an examiner interview with Dan Schick, one of the many artists who work on the special effects of Beloved Show. He talks about what it takes to get the finished final effect products and what it takes to get into the SE industry!
EXAMINER (EX) : Have you been with Supernatural from the beginning? If so, have all seasons been equally daunting in the special effects arena, or does one season stand out more than the others? If so, why?
Dan : Yes, I have been part of the visual effects crew since season one. I don't think that any one season has been more daunting than another, but I think it's safe to say that the visual effects have been steadily getting bigger and better as the seasons progress ~lol yeah I saw the phantom traveler epi after I watched s3 and laughed at the black smoke, it looked so baad ~
EX : IMDB credits you with the title "digital compositor" is that accurate? If so, what is a digital compositor? What portions of the effects are you responsible for in creation and the finished product that airs?
Dan : As a digital compositor I am basically responsible for the creation and combination of elements to form the desired effect and look of the shot. This, of course, ranges drastically depending on what kind of shot we are working on. It can be as simple as removing wires from stunt people, and it can get as complex as digitally creating camera moves, set extensions, and sometimes whole shots completely. Visual effects is a huge collaboration and luckily here at Supernatural we have a very talented group of artists.
We have 2 departments. The 3D department, and the Compositing department.
The 3D department is responsible for the creation of elements including anything from demon smoke, fire, dust elements, burning effects or atmospherics. They also do a lot of elements for matte paintings and set extensions like broken bridge elements or sometimes whole buildings that need to be added into the background of a shot. The 3D team typically creates CG knives for shots when the actors get stabbed, they do a lot of body replacement elements and they will create chunks, scars, blood, and gore elements to replace the actor.
The Compositing department is responsible for taking these 3D elements, along with elements that have been shot in live action (such as background plates, green screen plates, and elements like fire and water), and combining them all together to create the final shot. Typically one or two artists will collaborate on a shot, but for the more complex shots it's not uncommon to have many artist all working together to help create the final shot. EX : What is your background? Have you worked on a lot of TV and/or movie projects? Please, feel free to list other projects you have worked on.
Dan : I started out in 3D animation. I was working for a few animation studios that specialized in straight to DVD animated movies, but it didn't take long for me to become interested in effects and live action work. Some of the past animation projects I have worked on have been Hot Wheels AcceleRacers, and Viva Pinata for 4Kids TV. Previously to Supernatural, I was involved with a TV show called Killer Instinct.
EX : Readers and fans will be interested in what is required to get into your field of career. Schooling? Degrees? Interning? Advice? Etc...
Dan : There are a number of different paths you can take to get into visual effects. The best would be one of the many schools that specialize in digital art. Most of them will provide you with the basic training you will need to be a visual effects artist. From there all you need is an artistic eye, and passion for the project. School is a great way to get to know a few people in the industry. Once you have your foot in the door, interning is a great way to learn. Most of the knowledge you'll need to make it in the visual effects industry you'll learn on your first job.
EX : How long does a special effect take to complete? For example, one of your reels shows a scene from "Red Sky at Morning" with the water effect as the two sailor brothers collide ~ THIS VIDEO IS BELOW!! REALLY AMAZING ~ How long did that take from concept to final product? Also, the black demon smoke effect used many times in the series when a demon leaves a human host, it looks simple but I suspect it is very complex when broken down. How long does that effect take to create?
Dan : The duration of a visual effects shot can range drastically depending on what it is we are trying to achieve. For example, most wire and rig removal shots and most of the black eye shots can be completed in anywhere from a few hours to half a day. However, some of the more complex shots can take anywhere from a few days to a week or sometimes even longer ~ wow that long? that must be hard on a show that airs weekly ~
Every shot is different. The difficulty of the shot can depend on many things such as camera movement, length of the shot, how many elements are being added, as well as their placement in the shot. The shot you are referencing with the two brothers colliding, I believe took 3 or 4 days ~ this is actually one of the coolest effect shots on Beloved Show in my opinion ~ The demon smoke shots don't usually take that long, but it depends on what the smoke is supposed to be doing. If the smoke is required to only exit a character and then leave frame it doesn't usually take that long. However, if the demon smoke is required to do something else like exit through a vent, or bust down a door, or if the camera has a very dynamic move then those shots might take a little longer. Unfortunately, because of the nature of a show that airs every week, we sometimes don't have the time we would like to work on our shots.
EX : Have there been any effects that were scrapped when the concept didn't quite convey properly on the screen during production? If so, could you name one or two and explain what fell short.
Dan : Scrapping ideas is all part of the production process. If everyone's ideas made it to the finished show, the episode definitely wouldn't fit into it's one hour time slot. Usually by the time the visual effects department starts working on an episode the ideas and shots are all planned out. Unfortunately every once in a while shots get cut for various reasons. It could be that the shot is too complex and would require too much time, or it could be that the director of the episode had something completely different in mind. Whatever the reason, it is all part of the process.
EX : What is the most complex effect created thus far for Supernatural, in your opinion?
Dan : Season(s) and Episode(s).The most complex visual effects shot, in my opinion, would have to be in the second season, an episode called "Nightshifter". There was one exterior shot of the bank in this episode that I think took more than 7 weeks to complete with 6 or 7 artists working on it. Basically it is an establishing shot of the building and everything had to be digitally created including the buildings, the cars, the people, the flashing lights and even the helicopter. Essentially the whole shot had to be created digitally ~ WHATT ~

I'm not making this up people. Official word has come out saying that there's been a title switch for this season's newest episode. It's cool, another Led Zeppelin song reference, but I prefer the old name. Like I've grown to know this episode as the "Back to The Future II" epi. Well, whatever it's still Supernatural.
[ SPN FUN FACT : "The Song Remains the Same" was also the title of the very first Dawson's Creek episode that Jensen guested in! Freakyo Coincidento? ]
JOHN WINCHESTER IS BACK — The angels send Anna (guest star Julie McNiven) back in time to kill John (guest star Matthew Cohen) and Mary (guest star Amy Gumenick) Winchester before they can conceive Sam (Jared Padalecki) knowing that if Sam was never born then Lucifer won't be able to use him as his vessel. Castiel (Misha Collins) sends Sam and Dean (Jensen Ackles) back to 1978 so they can stop Anna, and the two brothers are reunited with their parents. Mary recognizes Dean as a hunter since he visited her in the past once before but tries to keep the truth from John. Steve Boyum directed the episode written by Sera Gamble & Nancy Weiner (#513).

I think this one's going to be a tearjerker. If that awkward Sammy scene in the SNEAKPEAKS isn't convincing enough for you to ready up some tissue for tears, I've heard from an early review source that there will be emotional scenes between the boys with their mom and dad.
